A Real Man Is
A Real Man Is was a three-year project that was completed in 2018. The project aimed at empowering young people to become active participants in the campaign to prevent violence against women. Occupy Playground took place at Langata Road Primary School to positively trigger and be a catalyst for other schools to come out and seek for their land rights. The protest influenced the government’s directives for all primary and secondary schools to be issued with their title deeds and the erection of a permanent wall around the Langata School.
Garissa Vigil & Concert
The Garissa Vigil and concert served to draw Kenyans not only to mourn with and support the families of the 147 students that lost their loved ones during the Garissa University terrorist attack, but also to awaken citizens to demand for more action and accountability from the government on the efforts to curb terrorism in Kenya.
In 2024, PAWA254 launched the 16 Days of Activism campaign with a Town Hall dialogue titled Scars Behind the Mask. The event employed storytelling and artistic expressions to vividly depict the struggles faced by HRDs and GBV survivors. The Town Hall convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including HRDs, GBV survivors, civil society organisations, duty bearers, and the media, fostering an environment of accountability and collaborative action. The dialogue aimed to strengthen existing protections, drive meaningful policy changes, and ensure a comprehensive support system for both GBV survivors and HRDs. The event featured a series of activities, including storytelling sessions, group therapy discussions, and panel conversations, providing a holistic platform for engagement and advocacy.

6. Sauti Jasiri
Through funding from Forum Civ. under its #WajibuWetu program, PAWA254 implemented a two year high-impact project that integrated arts and advocacy titled #SautiJasiri in the informal settlements of Mukuru, Kayole, and Dandora. The project focused on expanding the human rights space in the aforementioned settlements, aiming at empowering the rights holders to know and demand for their rights from the duty bearers.
The project employed three strategies i.e., Public Interest Litigation, Citizen Journalism, and Artivism to empower the communities and ultimately contribute to shifting of the power balance from the right holders to the duty bearers. The project specifically responded to the #WajibuWetu program which sought to improve the capacities of the right holders to demand their rights.
The main aim of the Sauti Jasiri project was to shift the power balance in the target areas from the power cartels to the masses so that the people were in control of their development. To achieve this goal, the project sought to build awareness and conscientize the public on their rights as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya, build a movement that will work in unison to defeat the current power structures that have taken advantage of the divisions inherent in many communities and most importantly, take action to reclaim their human rights and roll back the impunity perpetrated by cartels and state officers abusing their power and influence.
